Casey’s Cause 1st Annual 5k and 1 Mile Fun Run

On Saturday, April 5, Casey’s Cause held its 1st Annual 5k and 1 Mile Fun Run. We had over 600 registrants, and despite some dreary weather, over 300 runners participated in the 5k. We were told this might have to be a record for a first time run! Trophies were awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place male and female winners in the various age groups, and overall winners also received gift certificates from Trak Shak. Everyone seemed to have a great time on the one mile fun run, and the kids received ribbons for completing the event.

Afterwards, two moon bounces were available for the kids, as well as face painting by Cindy Robertson. Live entertainment was provided by Dave Evans, and we enjoyed his music!

Those adults and children who have fought, or who are currently fighting ITP, received an “ITP Fighter” t-shirt as special recognition for them. We all were encouraged by their attendance, and enjoyed meeting those we have “met” online over the last year. To honor Casey, Board members released pink and green balloons. The Board also presented Jason and Christine with an engraved plaque to commemorate the day. The day was a success we never could have anticipated or imagined. We are pleased to announce that over $17,000 was raised through race registrations, sponsors, t-shirt sales, and many generous donations. Casey’s Cause is proud to donate $10,000 to the Research Fund of PDSA (Platelet Disorder Support Association).
